Mission Statement

St. John’s College Library promotes learning, teaching and scholarship by providing materials and resources that promote the curriculum of all Divisions; as well as providing materials for professional development and personal interests.

Vision Statement
As the center of St. John’s educational programs, the library strives to meet the changing needs of the College in a variety of ways:

  • By working closely with faculty and students to provide materials that meet course needs as well as personal needs
  • By developing instruction programs for library use

LIBRARY

  • By setting up an on-line catalog so patrons can easily determine if we have a book and if it is available.
  • By developing programs to fit faculty needs.
  • By working with library workers to provide the best customer service possible through a variety of professional development programs.
  • By working with other educational institutions to share and develop needed resources.
  • By using technology in such a way that students and faculty may obtain the best references to meet their needs. This will involve the use of both pay and free databases.
  • By continuing to update our collection and access to online materials.
  • By working closely with the Belizean Studies Department and the Jesuit Community to collate and protect the valuable materials relating to Belize and the history of St. John’s College

Services

  • Friendly, knowledgeable service. Our staff seeks to provide the service that our patrons need in order to meet their goals in coming to the library.
  • Photocopying is available at $0.25 a page. We do not make photocopies from required textbooks.
  • Printing is also $0.25 a page, however printing credits need to be purchased at the book store.
  • Reference help is available from any staff person. There is a collection of reference materials in the reference area of the library. These books are to be used within the library. A vertical file collection of articles that relate to courses offered at St. John’s is available and growing. Faculty will often ask that a particular book be placed on reference for a limited period of time. These books are kept in the front office and are available for use within the library.
  • Library instruction on use of the library and any library materials is available for classes and/or individuals.
  • There is a small DVD/video collection available for classroom use only.
  • A computer based catalog system is available that will help patrons to know if we own a certain book and if it is available.
