Global Minds Talent Show
Global Minds, a service-based club, hosted a talent show on Feb. 28 to showcase the talents of the student body. A variety of talents were exhibited, including singing, dancing and poetry. There was also a performance by the rock band SoundProof.
First place went to Chad Wade, who won a round trip ticket to San Pedro for two with his original song, "Pull Up the Chune." Wade, along with Kerwick Samuels (2nd place) and Janelle Rodriguez (3rd place) will appear on Open Your Eyes next week.
A.R.M.E.D. Fundraiser
The A.R.M.E.D. club, a group that focuses on tutoring and mentoring younger students around Belize City, held a fundraiser on Jan. 30 to help fund its projects. This semester, the club hopes to exceed the number of students assisted last semester by increasing its presence in primary schools.
Minister Elrington Visits SJC
Hon. Wilfred Elrington paid a visit to the Fordyce Chapel on Jan. 24 to present on the Belize-Guatemala territorial dispute and discuss the implications of the upcoming referendum.
After the presentation, Elrington fielded questions from the student body and faculty. He maintained that, regardless of your position on taking the Guatemalan claim to the International Court of Justice, we should all take the opportunity to voice our opinion by voting in the referendum on Oct. 6.
Welcome New Students
On Thursday, Nov. 29, sixty-one newly admitted students gathered in the Student Center for New Student Orientation. They listened to several presentations intended to make them responsible, efficient students. After the presentations, the Student Council took them on a tour of the campus.

Dance Club Performance
The first Dance Club performance was held in the Student Center on Nov. 6, 2012 to the delight of hundreds of student onlookers. The club danced to a variety of genres of music, always keeping the crowd entertained.

Mass of the Holy Spirit
The Fordyce Chapel was packed with first and second year students for the annual Mass of the Holy Spirit. They were joined by special guest from around the country and from the Missouri Province.
Cancer Awareness Day
Was hosted by S.T.A.R.S. and the Club Leaders Coalition. Efforts were made to bring awareness to the importance of regular checkups, both self- and doctor-performed. There was also an effort to raise money for local charities dealing in cancer awareness.
Culture Day
On Nov. 13, 2012 students dressed up in culturally specific attire to honor their roots. Food was served by several students who worked hard to present their cultural dishes to students and faculty alike. The event was highlighted by a performance from the Dance Club.
Club Fair
Hundreds of students poured into the Student Center on Aug. 21, 2012 to sign up for their favorite clubs. Their choices ranged from service-based clubs (GECO, STARS, Wavemakers, Global Minds, Peer Ministry, ARMED) to interest-based clubs (Dance Club, Music Club, Egalitarian Community Club) to athletic clubs (La Ruta Maya Club, Ping Pong Club) to academic clubs (Biotechnology Honors Society).
Valentine's Day Love Match
The Student Council hosted a Valentine's Day-themed game show on Thurs, Feb. 14. Couples answered questions about their significant other in hopes of winning fabulous prizes.
Human Trafficking Awareness Training
Ms. Christa Courtenay and Ms. Evian Hyde coordinated a training workshop to educate students on the dangers of human trafficking.
The workshop focused on how to recognize warning signs and report them to the appropriate authorities.
After the workshop, each student received a certificate of completion.
Spartans Rip Up the North
The male and female basketball team made the trip up to Corozal on Feb. 1 to compete in the annual ATLIB Regional Basketball Tournament.
The girls crushed Belize Adventist Junior College by a score of 27-2 and automatically advanced to Nationals.
The boys, inspired by the Spartans at Thermopylae, dominated Corozal Junior College, 56-24, and Belize Adventist Junior College, 99-14.
Both teams will compete in the National Tournament in 2 weeks in San Pedro.
Ash Wednesday Mass
The Junior College held two masses and extended invitation to all students, parents, and alumni to join in the Liturgy on Ash Wednesday.
The mass was held at 11 a.m. and again 5:15 p.m. to accommodate both day and evening students. The masses were well attended as students joined in prayer to celebrate the beginning of the Lenten season.
Spartans Place 3rd in Nationals
The male and female basketball teams stormed the sandy beaches of San Pedro on Feb. 17 to compete in the ATLIB Basketball National Tournament.
Despite a valiant effort from both teams, they ultimately fell short of the trophy.
The entire SJC community extends congratulations to all players and coaches, and encourages them to train hard for next year, when we will once again strive for athletic excellence.
Super Cup Football
The Super Cup Football competition kicked off on Friday, March 8. The top 3 teams in the points standings all put on a strong showing, but 2 teams ultimately prevailed.
After the final whistle, the Dark Knights and the Immortals tied 0-0 due to supreme defensive skills. Each team received 100 points, pulling them closer to the overall lead.

House Basketball
March 14, 2013
The Sports Day House Basketball competition began on Thursday with Games 1 and 2. In Game 1, Weber House (Yellow) faced Zinkle House (Green) in a double overtime thriller. Zinkle House pulled out the win at the very end, advancing them to the finals.
In Game 2, Locke House (Red) went against Thompson House (Blue). The game was neck and neck until Thompson House pulled away in the last few minutes.
The Finals will take place at 3:15 p.m. on Monday in the Gym.
Annual SJCJC Marathon

Nearly 100 students took to the streets on Friday to compete in the annual SJCJC Marathon. This year the participants were awarded points for their respective houses, and the top 15 male and female finishers received extra points based on position.

Hundreds of students came out to participate in SJCJC's annual Sports Day. They competed in several events, both athletic and intellectual.
The winning team, Thompson House, will be rewarded with a banquet, sponsored by the Alumni Association.
Thanks to all the students who make Sports Day a success!
Super Cup Game Show

The grand finale event of the Super Cup Tournament, the General Knowledge Game Show, was held on Tuesday.
The top two teams competing for the cash prize and coveted Super Cup trophy engaged in a battle of wits in the Student Center.
Both teams displayed a vast wealth of knowledge, but in the end, the League of Shadows prevailed over Jah Youth.
